Bondi’s a disgrace

Attorney General Pam Bondi’s testimony before the House Judiciary Committee was evasive rather than clarifying. Instead of directly addressing concerns about the Justice Department’s handling of the Jeffrey Epstein document release and redactions, she often declined to give clear answers about investigative decisions, internal review processes, or the exposure of victims’ identities. Lawmakers pressed for specifics regarding accountability and procedural safeguards, but many of those questions were met with broad statements about ongoing reviews or general departmental policy rather than concrete explanations. As a result, key oversight concerns remained unresolved by the end of the hearing. Her behavior reflect’s this administration’s general disregard and utter contempt for the principle of separation of powers and checks and balances.

Bondi’s approach further weakened the effectiveness of her testimony. Rather than consistently focusing on the substance of the committee’s questions, she frequently characterized criticism as politically motivated and redirected attention toward partisan disputes. This strategy may have energized political allies, but it did little to enhance transparency or reassure skeptical members of Congress. Oversight hearings are designed to elicit information and clarify executive branch conduct, and shifting the tone toward partisan rebuttal undermined the institutional purpose of the proceeding.

Perhaps most notable was her limited expression of direct responsibility regarding the impact of the document release on victims. While she offered general sympathy, she stopped short of a clear acknowledgment of departmental error or an unqualified apology when pressed. In a hearing centered on justice and victim protection, that restraint struck some observers as lacking in empathy and accountability. Whether justified by legal caution or political calculation, the overall impression was of a department more focused on defending its position than on restoring public trust through forthright engagement. In the end, she is simply a disgrace and an embarassment. This nation deserves better.
